Syracuse to Add More Fitness Facilities
SYRACUSE, NY – Syracuse University will have another fitness center available to students when the fall semester begins in August. The university is opening a 3,700-square-foot fitness center in the Marshall Square Mall, and another fitness facility will follow in August 2009, according to the Central New York Business Journal.
Syracuse University’s Department of Recreation Services currently operates seven recreational facilities, totaling 140,186 square feet, throughout the campus. Mitchell Gartenberg, director of the Department of Recreation Services, told the Business Journal that smaller distributed-recreation facilities allows Syracuse to quickly add more recreation space. However, Gartenberg added that Syracuse is currently discussing the possibility of building a large recreation center.
The new fitness center available in August will feature 44 fitness machines along with three individual, unisex changing rooms, each with its own shower, the Business Journal reported. The total renovation cost is $530,000, with funding provided by Syracuse University’s Central Administration.
