Mukilteo YMCA Breaks Ground on Expansion
EVERETT, WA -- More than 500 people celebrated as the Mukilteo Family YMCA, a branch of the YMCA of Snohomish County in Mukilteo, WA, broke ground July 11 on its 14,000-square-foot expansion.
"The Mukilteo Family YMCA has continued to be a hub for people of all ages in our community," says Jeff Dunleavy, Mukilteo YMCA executive director. "The need for this expansion is a tribute to the vision, purpose and future of our YMCA."
The expansion will provide essential space to serve more teens, families, children, adults and community activities, according to a release from the Y. It will include an expanded teen center/study room/senior center, a new family/community room, increased multipurpose space, a new cardio and youth exercise room, and increased childcare space.
The facility has about 14,000 members. The expansion will allow the facility to increase that number to 18,000 members. The expansion’s completion is scheduled for late 2007.
"We are excited about the official groundbreaking as it brings us one step closer to serving more people in our community," says Paulette Hunter, chair of the Mukilteo YMCA board of directors. "We raised nearly $8 million during the capital campaign. That alone shows the dedication our community has towards our YMCA."
The Mukilteo Family YMCA was chartered in 1993 and opened its 42,000-square-foot facility in 2000. In 2004, it added a 20,000-square-foot skate park to serve more teens.
