Man Convicted of Fondling Boy at Illinois YMCA

SPRINGFIELD, IL -- A 60-year-old Springfield, IL, man was recently convicted of fondling a 15-year-old boy in the hot tub at the Springfield (IL) YMCA last spring, the State Journal-Register reported.

A jury took about two hours to convict Richard Seefeldt, who will be sentenced on April 18. Seefeldt was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, which is punishable by probation or up to seven years in prison, Randy Blue, assistant Illinois state's attorney, told the newspaper.

The victim, now 16, told the newspaper that the incident occurred in the Y hot tub. Under club rules, neither was clothed, the newspaper reported.

The victim said the two had a conversation about the hot tub, specifically that the jet near the victim wasn't working right. Seefeldt, the youth testified, reached over to adjust one setting and then reached over again to adjust a second setting, fondling him both times.

The Y did not immediately respond to requests for further information regarding the conviction.
