NEW YORK -- With political party conventions in full swing, New York Sports Clubs (NYSC) launched an election-themed exercise campaign Tuesday called “Voterobics 2008,” designed to draw attention to the connections between the presidency, exercise and the overall health and well-being of the U.S. population.

A demonstration was held Tuesday at an NYSC in New York featuring look-a-likes of presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain.

The exercises in Voterobics 2008 have politically-flavored titles attached to them. The exercises include Balance the Budget (balancing on a wobble board), GOP—Grand Old Push-Ups (push-ups off a step), Voter TKO (practicing boxing techniques on punching mitts with Obama and McCain masks attached to them) and Right Wing-Left Wing (performing an ab plank on a ball or mat while tapping your feet out to the left and right). Classes are conducted to music that has been used by current and former presidential candidates.

Voterobics 2008 will be offered to members at various New York Sports Clubs, Boston Sports Clubs, Washington Sports Clubs and Philadelphia Sports Clubs during the month of September through the presidential election on Nov. 4.

“We always try to incorporate fun, productive workout routines for our members that have some relevance to a timely event,” says Sean O’Hearen, senior director of NYSC.
