Camp Pendleton Fitness Centers Remain Open for Wildfire Evacuees

CAMP PENDLETON, CA -- Fitness centers at Marine Corps base Camp Pendleton (CA) will remain open and serve as evacuation centers for military members and their families that are affected by the wildfires spreading across southern California.

This morning, officials at Camp Pendleton announced that only key and essential personnel, including I Marine Expeditionary Force and Marine Corps Base personnel, should report to base. All other military members and Department of Defense employees were not be required to report to work because of safety concerns.

As of Tuesday afternoon, more than a half million people have been evacuated from San Diego County homes, according to media reports.
